Description

We offer accommodation in unique, private self catering cottags on a historical working farm with a rich recorded history in an attractive tranquil mountainous area just under 2 km from the N 3 and only about 3 hours from Johannesburg, Durban or Blomfontein.

Aloe Cottage has a large loft with a Queen size bed and a single, then downstairs there is a second bedroom with two single beds next to a bathroom with a shower. The living area incorporates the well equipped kitchen, dining and sitting area with a fireplace. There is a large covered veranda with a stunning view of the mountains and there is a covered braai area in the garden which is enclosed and  suitable for guest dogs. 

Poplar Cottage has 2 bedrooms downstairs, one with a double bed and en suite bathroom with a shower. the second bedroom has 2 single beds and there is a second bathroom with a bath. Upstairs there is a large loft with up to 4 single beds. The large living area has a well equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting area with a fireplace. In the garden there is a covered braai area and the garden is totally enclosed making it suitable for guests dogs.

 The Old Trading Store has 3 bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and has an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower, another bedroom has a double bed and a bathroom en suite with a bath. The third bedroom has a Queen size bed and a single and is next to a bathroom with a shower. The well equipped kitchen is separate and the living room is very large and has dining and sitting area with a fireplace. The veranda has a stunning view of the mountains and there is a covered braai in the garden.

The Garden Cottage is a bed sitter type of room with a sitting nook at one side and kitchen at the other. There is a double bed and a single and the bathroom has a bath. The veranda looks on to the swimming pool and there is a portable braai.

Attractions

Horse Riding, Walking and Hiking, Mountain Biking - bring own bikes, Birding, Swimming in pool or farm dams, interacting with farm animals such as pigs, sheep. cattle and horses.

Day trips are possible to Battlefield sites and Northern Drakensberg resorts or the Eastern Highlands of the Free State.

- My wife and I plus my son aged 30yrs are returning to England via Joberg and would like to break up our journey stopping overnight with breakfast. We need two rooms and the cottage (old trading post?) seems ideal

- This place was absolutely stunning, and I highly recommend it. Sheila is the most gracious host, the places was spotlessly clean, lovely soft beds and clean fluffy linen. There is heaps to do, we went on a walk, went fishing, went on a horse ride, and the area has lots of little things to see (Worlds smallest church just around the corner) and lovely restaurant (The Green Lantern). The mountainous view is breath taking. Its perfect for family (or couples wanting romantic alone time, there's a fireplace!). My 2 year old LOVED watching the pigs, horses, cows and sheep, and we could touch all of these animals, they are RIGHT on your door step so to speak. The breakfast was trully a heaty farm breakfast! Milk and eggs from the farm, and homemade marmelade jam. This place was MUCH MORE than I expected, and I would glady recommend it to everyone. In fact, we cant wait to go back with our friends!!

Directions

Coming from Johannesburg/Harrismith on N3 take note of the Halfway Caltex Garage on left at Van Reenen and continue on N3 towards Ladysmith for 9km and see our signs on brown boards directly opposite the Pyramids Motel (previousley Andrews Motel). Turn left on to farm road (tarred) and drive for 1.8km which will bring you to the main house from where you will be directed to your individual cottage. Coming from Durban/Ladysmith on either the N3 or R103 travel a further 15km from the Tugela Toll Plaza on the N3 and follow the signs to Wyford directly opposie Pyramids Motel (previously Andrews Motel) and continue as directed above.
